History
Old when the bank was still called Intermedia
The Intermedium CFI finance company was founded in 1994, in the city of Belo Horizonte[9] by members of the Menin family that owns the MRV Engenharia group.[10] The initial purpose was to promote Real Estate Credit operations, however, the company ended up consolidating in the Payroll Loan and Middle Market markets.
In 2007, real estate credit operations were reopened, with real estate refinancing being the main product of this portfolio. The year 2008 was marked by the receipt of a charter from the Central Bank with authorization to operate as a multiple bank.
At the end of 2014, Banco Inter launched Conta Digital,[11] a totally free current account, which can be accessed by computers and cell phones and allows deposits, transfers, payment of bank slips, withdrawals at any Banco 24 Horas ATM, among other services. In April 2016, as soon as Central Bank of Brazil Resolution No. 4480[12] became effective, the opening of new digital accounts was facilitated.
In 2016, the bank recorded net income of R$25.5 million, with a 10.3% expansion of the credit portfolio to R$2.3 billion reais, of which 52.5% correspond to real estate credit. Fundraising, on the other hand, advanced 32.5% and totaled R$ 2.7 billion in December 2016. This year, the Bank was ranked 14th in the GPTW (Best Companies to Work for) ranking in the category 250 to 999 employees in Minas Gerais. General.[13]
On June 8, 2017, the bank renewed its brand. From Intermedia, it was renamed Banco Inter.[14][15] In the first half of 2017, Banco Inter had 184.7 thousand digital account holders, a growth of 804% compared to the first half of 2016, with the number of transactions carried out increasing 29 times in the same period. Net income reached R$ 22.1 million in the period, an annual increase of 83.6%.[16][17]
On April 30, 2018, Banco Inter announces the IPO in B3, with its shares priced at R$18.50,[18] having raised R$721 million.[19] In the first five days of its IPO, it cost R$21.50, but stabilized at R$18.95. The bank went public at approximately R$1.9 billion,[19] reaching R$8.5 billion in July 2019.[20]
In a secondary share offering in July 2019, the bank raised 1.3 billion reais. Of these, 380 million reais went to preferred shareholders, and of the remainder, 90% went to SoftBank, which now holds 10% of the bank's capital.[21]
In August 2019, Banco Inter updated its smartphone app with a new tool that allows customers to have cashback when shopping at various stores.[22] The financial institution also announced a partnership with insurance provider MetLife, which now offers dental plans in its Android and iOS app. The solution is 100% digital.[23]
data leakage
In May 2018, the bank was hacked, which resulted in the leaking of account holders' data.[24] There was also leakage and subsequent revocation of the encryption key[25] used by the bank to protect the communication between the bank and account holders. On July 31, 2018, the Personal Data Protection Commission of the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories initiated a legal proceeding against Banco Inter for collective pain and suffering. According to the Ministry, investigations found that the data leak affected 19,961 bank users.[26][27] In December, the bank reached an agreement with the Public Ministry, paying 1.5 million reais.[28]
PAI Investments
Determined to enter the area of investment for individuals, Banco Inter launched its new platform in 2019: PAI Investimentos.[29] The tool has a completely free home broker, so that account holders can trade assets such as stocks, real estate funds and Tesouro Direto and have access to various investment funds.
